Two bakers and a counter on Central Avenue.

Ostrem Bakery opened in 2019 in a former shoe repair shop at 2210 Central. We still bake everything in the room behind the counter, and you can watch from the window.

Leila Amari

Pastry · since 2021

Leila ran the pastry kitchen at a restaurant in St. Paul before she joined. She laminates the croissant dough by hand every afternoon and makes every cake to order.

How we got here.

Leila pressing pastry into a fluted tart tin

2019

Anders opens with one deck oven, a country loaf and a baguette. Sold out by ten most days.

2021

Leila joins as a partner. Croissants, tarts and cakes come with her.

2023

A second oven, and a bread for each day of the week. The Saturday limpa starts a line.

Today

Four cafés, five mornings a week, and Sam at the counter keeping a limpa back for the regulars.

Where the flour and butter come from

Flour

Stone-milled wheat, rye and spelt from a small mill in Northfield, an hour south.

Butter

Cultured butter from a dairy co-op in southern Minnesota, for every croissant and cake.

Fruit

Whatever is good at the Saturday market. That’s why the tarts change every week.

Come by before one.
