NINEFOLD LANTERN LTD · LAST UPDATED AUGUST 2026
THE SHORT VERSION

Cindermoth has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics SDK and no third-party trackers. It does not know who you are and never sends us your gameplay.

Two things leave your device, and only if you allow them: a crash report when the game falls over, and your save file if you have cloud sync switched on. Everything below is the detail of those two things.

Who we are

Ninefold Lantern Ltd, registered in England and Wales, at Unit 4, Bath Buildings, Bristol BS6 5PT. For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law we are the data controller for anything described here. You can reach us at [email protected].

What the game does not collect

Cindermoth contains no advertising, no advertising identifier, no analytics or telemetry SDK, no social login, and no third-party code that reports back to anyone. We do not build a profile of you and we have nothing to sell.

There is no account to create, so we hold no name, email address, age or location for any player. We cannot see how far you got, how long you played, or what you marked on your map.

Crash reports

If the game crashes, your platform may offer to send us a diagnostic report. This is the operating system’s own mechanism — Apple’s, Valve’s or Nintendo’s — and it only happens if you have opted in at the system level. We do not run our own crash reporter.

The report contains the game version, your device model and OS version, and a technical stack trace. It does not contain your name, your save file, or anything you typed. We use it only to fix the crash, and we delete reports after a year.

Save files and cloud sync

Your save lives on your device. If you use iCloud on iOS or macOS, or Steam Cloud on Steam, a copy is stored in your own account with that provider so it syncs between your machines. It is your storage, governed by their privacy policy, and we have no access to it. Turning cloud sync off in your system settings stops this entirely.

Buying the game

We never see your payment details. Steam, Apple, Nintendo and itch.io take the payment and hold the receipt; we receive only aggregate sales figures with no personal information in them. If you need a refund or a purchase looked up, it has to go through the store, because they hold the record and we do not.

When you email us

If you write to support or press, we keep your message and address so we can reply and so we recognise a follow-up. We use it for nothing else, we do not add you to a mailing list, and we delete support threads a couple of years after they close. Our email is hosted in the EU.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, which is why you were not asked to consent to any. Our host keeps standard server logs containing IP addresses for security purposes and discards them shortly after. Trailers open on YouTube, which is Google’s service and Google’s privacy policy — nothing from YouTube loads until you click through.

Children

Cindermoth is rated PEGI 7 and ESRB E10+ and is suitable for children, but it is not directed to children as its primary audience and is not in the App Store Kids Category. Because the game collects nothing and has no chat, no ads and no purchases inside it, there is no personal information of a child for us to hold. If you believe we hold something about a child, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our using it. In practice the only thing we are likely to hold is an email thread. Ask at [email protected] and we will answer within a month.

If you are unhappy with how we handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to your own national supervisory authority in the EU.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything material we will update the date at the top of this page and note what changed in the game’s patch notes. We will not quietly start collecting something this policy says we do not.
