Terms of Use

NINEFOLD LANTERN LTD · LAST UPDATED AUGUST 2026
THE SHORT VERSION

Buy it once, play it forever, on as many of your own devices as you like. Record it, stream it, and make money from those videos — permanently, without asking.

Do not resell it, crack it, or pass off our artwork as your own. That is genuinely the whole of it; the clauses below are the same thing written the way a lawyer needs it written.

Agreement

These terms are between you and Ninefold Lantern Ltd, of Unit 4, Bath Buildings, Bristol BS6 5PT. They apply when you install or play Cindermoth and when you use this website. The store you bought from has its own terms as well, and those govern the transaction itself.

Your licence

Buying Cindermoth gives you a personal, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to install and play it for as long as you like, on any device you own or control, for your own non-commercial enjoyment. You are buying a licence rather than the game itself; we keep ownership of the code, art, music and the name. There is no subscription and no expiry.

Videos and streaming

You may record, stream and publish footage of Cindermoth on any platform, and you may monetise it — advertising, sponsorship, subscriptions, memberships, all of it. This permission is granted for as long as the video exists and does not need to be renewed. We will never issue a copyright claim or takedown against a video of our own game.

The one limit is that the video must be your work about the game, not a substitute for it: do not upload the soundtrack on its own as an album, and do not publish a cut that is simply the whole game start to finish with nothing of yours added.

Press and creator assets

The screenshots, key art, logos and trailers in our press kit may be used in coverage of the game, in video thumbnails, and in articles, without asking us first. Please do not alter the logo, and please do not use our artwork to promote something that is not Cindermoth. Everything else we make stays ours.

What you may not do

Do not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the game or its files. Do not remove or work around whatever copy protection the store applies. Do not extract the art, music or sound and publish them as assets. Modifying your own copy for your own use is fine, and we will not chase anyone for it, but modified builds must not be distributed.

Updates and availability

We intend to keep fixing bugs and keeping the game running on current hardware, but we cannot promise updates forever, and a platform holder may at some point stop supporting a device we cannot control. If a store removes the game from sale, your existing copy and your licence are unaffected.

Refunds

Refunds are handled entirely by the store you bought from, under that store’s policy, because they took the payment and we never see it. We do not object to refund requests and we are not told when one is made. Nothing here removes the statutory rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Warranty and liability

The game is provided as it is. We have tested it as thoroughly as two people can, but we cannot warrant that it is free of every fault or that it will run on every configuration. Where the law allows us to limit our liability, our total liability to you is capped at what you paid for the game.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in. Questions go to [email protected].
